Eligibility & Application
Q1: Who can apply for the program?
Students in Years 10–12 with a strong interest in computer science or programming. You don’t need formal experience, but prior exposure to coding or problem-solving is helpful.
Q2: How do I apply?
Applications are accepted only from selected schools via recommendations from the school’s career advisors.
Q3: Is there a cost to participate?
The program is free of charge, thanks to the support of the University of Sydney.
Program Format & Content
Q4: What will I be learning?
The program is based on content from INFO1110 – Introduction to Programming. You’ll learn Python, problem-solving techniques, and foundational software engineering skills.
Q5: Is the program delivered online or in-person?
Most of the program is delivered online, with weekly coding content and optional live Zoom consultation sessions. There are also 2–3 in-person workshops held at the University of Sydney.
Q6: How much time should I expect to commit each week?
Approximately 3–5 hours per week for lectures, coding exercises, and optional consultations.
Technology & Support
Q7: What tools will I use in the program?
You’ll use the Edstem learning platform, which includes lecture notes, coding environments, and discussion forums. No extra software is needed—just a browser.
Q8: What if I get stuck or need help?
You can ask questions in Edstem discussions or attend weekly Zoom consultation sessions with our tutors.
Schedule & Attendance
Q9: When does the program start and finish?
The 2025 session begins on Monday 4 August 2025 and runs for 13 weeks, including a mid-semester break. The final week is in early November.
Q10: Do I have to attend every session or workshop?
Most learning is self-paced online, so you can complete content around your schedule. You are required to attend the workshops unless there is a strong reason, and prior permission is obtained.
Certification
Q11: Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Students who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Participation from the University of Sydney.
Other
Q12: Can this program help with university entry?
This is not a direct pathway into university. However, if you join the University of Sydney you will be given prior credit for INFO1110. That is, you will not have to retake this core unit.
